Bengaluru, April 20: In a shocking development, former Director General and Inspector General of Police (DGP & IGP) Om Prakash was found murdered at his residence in HSR Layout, Bengaluru. The incident is believed to have taken place following a long-standing domestic dispute within the family.
Initial reports indicate that Om Prakash was stabbed to death with a knife, and police sources confirm that the crime scene was drenched in blood. The main suspect in the case is his wife, Pallavi, who has been taken into custody by the HSR Layout police for interrogation.
Ten days prior to the murder, there was a reported argument in the household. When police arrived at the residence after receiving alerts, Pallavi allegedly refused to open the door.
Bengaluru Police Commissioner B. Dayanand and senior officers, including Alok Mohan, rushed to the spot upon learning about the incident. Home Minister G. Parameshwara has also been informed, and a high-level investigation is underway.
Om Prakash, who served as the state’s top cop in 2015, was reportedly facing domestic tension for years. Family sources and preliminary investigations suggest that disputes related to property and a strained relationship with his wife and children might have played a role in the tragic incident.
The couple has two children — a daughter and a son named Karthikesh, who resides in Bengaluru. The family owns extensive property in Magadi, Bidadi, and other areas, including a crusher business run by the son.
A WhatsApp message sent by Pallavi three days before the murder has now come to light. In the message, sent to senior police officials, she accused her husband of subjecting her and her daughter to severe mental harassment. She also claimed he used to roam around the house with a gun and threatened to kill them, urging police to file a suo motu case against him.
Police have reportedly recovered a knife from the scene and continue to probe multiple angles, including domestic abuse and property disputes.
Further updates are awaited as the investigation unfolds.
