Bangalore, 26.10.2023 — The esteemed Governor of Karnataka, Shri Thaawarchand Gehlot, joined by the distinguished President, Smt. Draupadi Murmu, graced the Golden Jubilee celebration of the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIM Bangalore) in the city on Thursday.
In his address, the Governor emphasized, “Karnataka State stands as a vanguard in Education and Information Technology within the nation, with Bangalore acclaimed as the epicenter of education and IT in India. It houses numerous world-class research hubs and educational institutions, among them the illustrious Indian Institute of Management.”

Governor Gehlot remarked, “Since its establishment in 1973, IIM Bangalore has been instrumental in catapulting Bangalore into the software industry limelight through its pioneering postgraduate programs in Software and IT Management, and Software Enterprise Management, pivotal in the transformation of Bangalore into a thriving IT nucleus. The institute was lauded for its endeavors in propelling entrepreneurship, exemplified by the establishment of NSRCEL-Entrepreneurial Learning in 2000.”
Highlighting the foray into digital education, the Governor announced the launch of a two-year master’s degree program in Business Analytics through massive open online courses. He commended the introduction of a 12-month Professional Certificate Program in Hospital Management by IIMB, a crucial step in meeting the demand for proficient healthcare professionals. The Indian Institute of Management remains a cornerstone for academic, executive education, and management research, sculpting business acumen and bolstering India’s standing in the realm of entrepreneurship.

Governor Gehlot emphasized, “IIMs have been pivotal in shaping the trajectory of the Indian economy. Their impact is evident in the current status of the Indian economy as the fifth largest globally, poised for further ascent to the third largest. To realize the vision of a 5 trillion dollar economy and a fully developed nation in the near future, the imperative lies in nurturing a cadre of world-class managers and fostering more institutions of global repute.”
He further underscored the profound influence of IIMs, which, guided by the motto “Tejaswi Navadhitamstu” (“Enlighten our Studies”), have garnered international acclaim by championing excellence in management, innovation, and entrepreneurship for the betterment of both government and society.
Distinguished figures including IIMB BOG Chairperson Dr. Deviprasad Shetty and Director Professor Hrishikesh T. Krishnan graced the occasion with their presence.
