Para Military forces to arrive in Mysore in April first week – Seema Latkar

Mysore, April 1: In order to assist and be stand-by to the district police during the elections, the para-military forces will arrive in Mysore in the first week of April. This was disclosed to the media by Seema Latkar, Superintendent of Police (SP) of Mysore district.

“The election commission has identified several sensitive and hyper sensitive booths in Mysore district. We have to ensure that no untoward incident take place in these areas. Our task is to ensure peaceful polling and peaceful atmosphere after the counting,” Seema Latkar added.

She said the police have already identified the places where the para-military forces need to stage flag march and the places to be deployed. The SP, however, refused to divulge the details. She merely said, “These are Operational Details. These cannot be divulged.”

Seema Latkar said as of now Rs 46 lakhs cash has been seized at various check-posts in Mysore district. A few anti-social elements have been sent out of the district. “We have taken enough care to see that no untoward incident take place during the electioneering, on the day of polling and on the day of counting. Further measures, if need be, will be taken,” she added.

The Mysore district police have opened up check-posts in eight places. A number of people from outside state through Bawali check-post. The district police have also kept an eagle’s eye on the Naxal activities in the Karnataka-Kerala border.

“There are eight booths bordering Kerala state. We have plans to deploy additional forces there. All the eight check-posts are being manned round the clock by our officers. People come to Mysore district from the neighbouring districts of Chamarajanagar and Mandya. We cannot stop the people from coming but we will keep a vigil and check the vehicles if we get doubt or if we have specific information,” Seema Latkar explained.

Seema Latkar had earlier worked as DYSP (Intelligence) in Bangalore after which she was posted as DCP (Law and Order) in Belagavi city. She functioned as Assistant Inspector General of Police for some time in State Headquarters and then she was posted as SP of Mysore district a few months ago.
