New Delhi, Mar 13: India has created history in the 95th Academy Awards held at Los Angeles. RRR’s Naatu Naatu song won oscar for Best Original Song while The Elephant Whisperers won Best Documentary Short Subject.

The Oscars were awarded to composer MM Keeravaani and lyricist Chandrabose. RRR, director SS Rajamouli and featuring actors Ram Charan and Jr NTR had attended the Academy Awards
Naatu Naatu beat a slate of heavy-weight competitors – Lady Gaga’s Hold My Hand from Top Gun: Maverick, Rihanna’s Lift Me Up from Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, This Is A Life from Everything Everywhere All At Once, and Applause from Tell It Like A Woman.

MM Keeravaani and Chandrabose join a select group of Indians to have previously won Oscars – costume designer Bhanu Athaiya, composer AR Rahman, lyricist Gulzar, sound engineer Resul Pookutty, and legendary filmmaker Satyajit Ray who received an honorary award. Naatu Naatu is the first Indian song – and RRR is the first Indian film – to have won an Oscar.
The Elephant Whisperers Wins Big:
Kartiki Gonsalves and Guneet Monga’s Netflix documentary short, The Elephant Whisperers, has won the Oscar for Best Documentary Short category.

The short film follows a family from Tamil Nadu’s Mudumalai Tiger Reserve who end up adopting two orphan baby elephants. It was produced by Achin Jain and Guneet Monga, and directed by Kartiki Gonsalves.
The film was competing against Haulout, How Do You Measure a Year?, The Martha Mitchell Effect and Stranger At The Gate.
