March 3 – World Kannada Cinema Day; film organizations to organize cultural programmes

Bengaluru, March 2: Eighty Nine years ago, on 3rd March in 1934, the first Kannada talkie movie titled “Sati Sulochana” was released.
It was a modest beginning of what was destined to become a ‘mammoth affair’ later.
In order to commemorate that day, the Kannada cinema industry will celebrate ‘World Kannada Cinema Day’ on Friday, March 3.
Sati Sulochana was produced under the banner South India Movietone by Shah Chamanmal and Shah Bhoormal Chamanmal ji and was directed by Y. V. Rao.
The stars in that first Kannada talkie movie was starred by M. V. Subbaiah Naidu, Tripuramba, Nagendra Rao, Lakshmi Bai, Y. V. Rao, C V. Seshachalam and D. V. Murthy Rao.

Bellave Narahari Shastry had written the script and lyrics of the song. The movie was released at Paramount Theatre.
Incidentally, last year in 2022, chief minister Basavaraj Bommai while inaugurating the International Film Festival, had announced that March 3 will be celebrated as ‘World Kannada Cinema Day’
The Karnataka Film Academy has organized a cultural programme in city on this occasion. The venue is going to be Kannada Artists Association in Chamarajpet.
The multi-dimensional cultural programmes are organised jointly by Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce, Artists Association and Cinema journalists.
