New Delhi, February 8: The violence related to Left-Wing Extremism (LWE) – also called Naxal violence- has drastically come down by almost 76 percent in 2022 as compared to 2010, Union Home Minister Amit Shah has said.
“This success is due to the BJP government’s three-pronged strategy. First, a resolute approach with clarity, courage and conviction to curb extremist violence, better coordination with affected states and development through public participation,” Amit Shah said.
He was speaking at the meeting of the Parliamentary Consultative Committee on LWE. Shah presided over the meeting.
Providing statistics to buttress his argument, Shah said the number of civilians and security personnel killed in 2010 was 1005 whereas the number of civilians and security personnel killed in 2022 was 98.
“The anti-naxal forces had established 175 new camps to plug the security vacuum in the LWE-infested zones,” the Union Home Minister explained.

The major success achieved by the security forces is in the highly infested areas such as Buddha Pahad in Jharkhand, Chakarbandha in Bihar Nalla-Malla forest range in Dandakaranya forests, the tri-junction of Chhattisgarh, Telangana and Jharkhand.
“We have strengthened the air wing of the border security force (BSF) by providing night vision facilities and sophisticated arms and ammunition with latest gadgets,” Amit Shah explained the members of the Parliamentary Consultative Committee.
According to Amit Shah, the major factor for the peace to prevail in these areas is the massive developmental activities undertaken by the Centre in coordination with the states along with private partnerships.
“The areas which had never seen an asp halted road all these decades are now boasts of good, all-weather motorable roads, for example,” Amit Shah added.
