Bengaluru, February 6: Brahmin Purohits are annoyed with RSS Sarasanghachalak Mohan Bhagawat for his statement that ‘Purohiths created castes and not Gods’
“This statement of Mohan Bhagawat was needless and unwarranted. Lord Krishna himself has said in Gita that he (God) created the Chaatur Varnashrama for the overall benefit of the society. Then, how can Mohan Bhagawat ji say that Brahmin Purohits created castes?,” Pandit Narasimha Shastry said, while speaking with The Newz Peg.
While speaking in the function to mark the Jayanthi of Sant Ravi Das, the RSS chief said, “God did not create caste system. Each and every living being is equal in the eyes of god. It is the Purohiths who created caste system”.
Purohiths agree one part of Bhagawat’s statement – Everyone is equal in the eyes of Lord. However, the Purohiths do not agree with the latter part of the statement – that the Purohiths created the caste system.
“I am surprised that an otherwise cautious man like Mohan Bhagawat should have made such an inaccurate and erroneous statement,” Radhakrishna Bhat, an another Purohith told The Newz Peg, from Coondapur.
Purohiths are of the view that Mohan Bhagawat, perhaps, wanted to please the supporters of Sant Ravi Das where he addressed a huge convention.
“But why should he play to the gallery. He is not a politician. There was no need to denigrate one caste/community in order to attract and seek the support of another community,” Srinivas Dixit, another Purohith, said.
