New Delhi, January, 24: In a first, women personnel will be part of Border Security Force (BSF) camel contingent at the Republic Day parade this year.
Also, the ceremonial 21-Gun salute during the parade will be given using 105 MM Indian Field Guns which will replace the vintage British 25 MM Pounder guns.

Since Independence, the 21-Gun salute has been accorded by seven vintage quick fire 25 pounder guns which fire blank rounds as the national anthem is played.
Major-General Bhavnish Kumar who will be the Second-In-Command of the parade explained the composition of the marching contingents.

“There will be 16 marching contingents from the armed forces, Central Paramilitary forces, the Delhi police, the NCC and NSS. There will be 19 military pipes and drum bands and 27 tableaux of various states and armed forces,” Major-General Bhavnish Kumar added.

Before the commencement of the ceremonial parade, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lead the nation in paying homage to the fallen braveheart by laying a wreath at the National War Memorial.
Meanwhile, after rejected by the tableau selection committee, Karnataka managed to get its tableau selected with the theme “Naari Shakti”.

The statues of three women Padma Awardees – Saalumaradha Thimmakka, Soolagitthi Narasamma and Sukri Bommana Gowda – adorn the tableau. It was on display during the full dress rehearsal on Monday.
