Telangana, Oct. 5: Telangana’s ruling Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) on Wednesday changed its name to ‘Bharat Rashtra Samiti’ (BRS), with the intention of spearheading national politics.
A resolution to this effect was passed at the party’s general body meeting here, party sources said. Party president and Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao read out the resolution and announced that the party’s general body meet unanimously resolved to change the name from TRS to BRS.
TRS activists who gathered outside the party headquarters here, the venue for the meeting, burst into celebration soon after the announcement.
Telangana Chief Minister and TRS president K Chandrasekhar Rao earlier reached Telangana Bhavan, the TRS headquarters, from his camp office-cum-official residence. En route, he was accorded a grand welcome by the party activists.

Former Karnataka chief minister H D Kumaraswamy and other JD(S) leaders and Tamil Nadu’s VCK leader Thol. Thirumavalavan, who came at the invitation of Rao, had breakfast at ‘Pragati Bhavan’, the Chief Minister’s camp office-cum-official residence.

Earlier in the day, Rao, also known as KCR, performed puja on the occasion of Vijaya Dasami along with his family members at the Pragati Bhavan.
The cadres and leaders of the Telangana Rashtra Samithi, which changed its name to ‘Bharat Rashtra Samiti’ (BRS) on Wednesday, are in celebratory mode, hailing their party chief as a national leader.
While the party endorsed the name change at its general body meet here, party leaders burst crackers, distributed sweets and chanted “TRS and KCR Zindabad”.

Party chief K Chandrasekar Rao announced that the party’s general body unanimously resolved to change the name from TRS to BRS.

“Desh ke neta KCR” chants reverberated and similar slogans were seen in posters. “Desh ke neta KCR,” “Dear India he is coming”, and “KCR is on the way”, were among the slogans prominently displayed in banners, that could be seen in and around the venue of the meet besides other locations in the city.
