A much-awaited clash in the French Open tennis tournament ended heartbreakingly. King of Clay court Rafael Nadal reached his 14th French Open final, but his opponent Alexander Zverev was forced to quit the match after suffering a sickening right ankle injury.
Nadal was 7-6 (10/8), 6-6 ahead when Zverev was forced to quit.
Zverev turned his ankle as he chased down the ball in front of the players’ boxes on the Court. Soon after this, Zverev screamed in pain and medical support staff rushed into the field. He was taken in a wheelchair.
A few minutes later, Zverev returned to the court on crutches, which left his fans shattered.
Commenting on the match 13-time French Open champion Rafael Nadal said that, he is very sorry for Zverev.
“He was playing unbelievably in the entire tournament. He is a very good colleague. He is fighting hard to win a grand slam. But, he was unlucky. I wish him all the very best,” said Nadal.

On the other hand, Ruud saw off Marin Cilic 3-6, 6-4, 6-2, 6-2 in his semi-final which was held up when an environmental protester ran onto the court and tied herself to the net.
Ruud became the first Norwegian man to reach a Slam final and hailed Nadal as his “idol”.
