Belagavi (Karnataka), Dec. 17: Karnataka Pradesh Youth Congress members held a protest rally here on Friday demanding the state government to initiate steps to increase employment opportunities across various sectors in the state or to offer Rs 9000 monthly allowance to all unemployed youths in the state.
As part of this rally, the KPYCC had organised ‘Belagavi Chalo’ (Let’s Go to Belagavi) movement by organising thousands of youths here. The rally was jointly led by the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president, D. K. Shivakumar, KPCC working president, Satish Jarakiholi and KPYCC president, M. S. Raksha Ramaiah led the protest rally and attempted to lay siege to Suvarna Vidhana Soudha in Belagavi, where currently, 10-day winter legislature session is going on.
The police, however, stopped the youths from entering Vidhana Soudha, where youth, leaders, Mr Raksha and Indian Youth Congress President, B. V. Srinivasa argued that their delegation should be let in to hand over the memorandum to Chief Minister, Basavaraj Bommai.
Hundreds of youths from various parts of the state had gathered in Balagavi led march by beating drums and various other musical instruments to highlight the growing unemployment in the state.
KPCC president, D. K. Shivakumar said that the Congress party was planning to organise massive rally across the state to highlight the plight of youths including unemployment.
“We will assure that our party’s manifesto will consist of assuring unemployment stipend to all unemployed youths in the state. Our party leader, Rahul Gandhi has already spoken a lot about the ‘NYAY’ scheme. Main focus of our manifesto will revolve around problems faced by youngsters,” he said.
IYC president, B. V. Srinivasa said that teh BJP had assured in its manifesto that they would create a whopping Two crore employment opportunities annually across the country, but neither the Prime Minister Narendra Modi nor the state BJP has able to create job opportunities substantially.
“Irony it seems, a worker enrolled under Mahatma Gandhi Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MNREGA) is earning more than what a guest lecturer or guest teacher earns. This is a sad reality of BJP coming to power in National as well as in states,” he said.
KPYCC president, Raksha demanded that the unemployed youth in the state either should get job or the state government should release stipend of Rs 9000 monthly to all youths in the state. “According to an estimation there are about 56.6 lakh graduates and among these more than 34 lakh youths have remained unemployed,” he alleged.
He demanded, the state government has failed to create jobs locally as well as nationally. “Several industrial units have shut down due various measures due to the emergence of global pandemic in late 2019,” he said.
