New Delhi, Nov. 30: Bonhomie between Prime Minister, Narendra Modi and Janata Dal (Secular) (JDS) patriarch H. D. Deve Gowda was on a full display with the former sharing photos of him offering a chair to Mr Gowda to be seated next to him went viral on Twitter on Tuesday the moment the PM shared it on his account.

PM Modi tweeted this photo captioning it as “Had a great meeting with our former PM Shri @H_D_Devegowdaji in Parliament today.”

Proceedings in the Parliament’s both houses were disrupted for the second consecutive day since the start of the winter session started on Monday (Nov. 29) as opposition parties were protesting over various issues and the ongoing session is scheduled to conclude on December 23.

After his meeting with PM Modi, JD(S) supremo, Deve Gowda told reports that he discussed about the possibility of having an understanding between both parties during the ongoing biennial election to the Karnataka Legislative Council from 20 Local Authorities’ Constituencies for 25 seats which is already underway in the state.

The biennial elections were necessitated due to retirement of the 25 sitting members of Karnataka Legislative Council from 20 Local Authorities’ Constituencies which are going to expire on January 5, 2022.

“I have only requested him (Mr Modi) not to create any confusion during ongoing polls. Whereas ‘detailed understanding’ between both parties can be arrived at by both former chief ministers, H. D. Kumaraswamy and B. S. Yediyurappa discussed it together. They have already taken lead in this matter, hence, I will not deliberate on this matter,” he said.

Mr Gowda asserted that the deliberations between him and PM Modi did not dwell upon having an understanding in the 2023 Assembly polls. “In Karnataka, except for the Congress veteran and leader of the Opposition in Rajya Sabha, M. Mallikarjuna Kharge, nobody is interested in having a pre-poll alliance with us and I am not aware, what Congress party’s high command holds views on this matter. I am the last person to plead for anything from anyone,” he caustically retorted.
