Bengaluru, April 20: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao will campaign for JDS in the May 10 Assembly polls.
This was disclosed by former Chief Minister and JDS leader H. D. Kumaraswamy here on Thursday.
Speaking to The Newz Peg, Kumaraswamy said KCR will campaign mostly in Kalyana Karnataka region as well as in and around Bangalore.
“Bangalore and its surroundings have a very large Telugu population. We will request KCR to give time for Bamgalore region also,” Kumaraswamy added.
The JDS has lined up Mamata’s meetings in semi-urban areas and tier II cities in order to mobilize the poor, weaker and downtrodden section of society including farmers and agricultural labourers.
“We are sure that Mamata’s pro-poor and pro-weaker section image will add value to JDS campaign and sure to make a positive impact on the electorate,” Kumaraswamy explained.
The JDS is also trying to rope in former Jamnu and Kashmir chief minister Farooq Abdullah, SP chief Akhilesh Yadav and Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Tejasvi Yadav.
“All these leaders have maintained equi-distance from both Congress and BJP. We are fighting both Congress and BJP and this line up of leaders will add momentum to our campaign,” the JDS leader said
By involving the leaders who are opposed to both BJP and Congress in the campaign, the JDS is trying to forge, cement and firm up a strong political force in order to play a significant role in the national politics during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
