Hubballi, April 16: “I will resign as MLA on Sunday. Other things will follow,” Former Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar said, while speaking to the media in his residence late Saturday night.

He said Speaker Vishweshwar Hegde Kageri has given me appointment at 10.30 AM at Sirsi. “I will leave Hubballi at 7.30 AM. Reach Sirsi at 10 and resign,” Shettar added.

Shettar said he is hurt by the turn of developments engineered by “a few vested interests” in the party. “I have been humiliated, insulted. There is a conspiracy against me,” the former chief minister said.

He also said that after resigning as MLA, he will resign from the primary membership of the party. ‘Somebody in the party feels that I might become an obstacle to that person to become Chief Minister. I cannot function in a suffocating atmosphere,” Jagadish Shettar explained.

Shettar, however, did not reveal the name of the person who has conspired against him. “I will disclose in a due course,” the former chief minister said.

Shettar said he does not have any bad or questionable track record or does not have any CD. “I have led a clean life. There is no corruption charge against me. So, why I have been denied ticket. Nobody is answering this question,” Jagadish Shettar added.

He refused to say on which party ticket he will contest elections. “I will tell you tomorrow. But it is for sure that I will contest the elections,” the tall Lingayat leader said.

With the exit of Jagadish Shettar, BJP will never be the same again in Mumbai-Karnataka region.
