Karnataka Poll: BJP announces first list of 189 candidates

New Delhi, Apr 11: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) announced the first list of 189 candidates for upcoming Karnataka general election.
The list is filled with many surprise elements. R Ashok will contest Karnataka Congress chief DK Shivakumar on the Kanakpura seat. In Varuna constituency Minister V Somanna has been fielded against former CM Siddaramaiah.
CP Yogeshwar will fight former chief minister Kumaraswamy from Channapatna.

Of the 189 candidates, 52 are new faces who have been given the tickets. The list includes 32 candidates from the OBC community, 30 from SC and 16 from the ST community. The list has 31 PhD holders and 31 candidates who have post-graduate degrees.
Apart from this, the list includes 8 doctors, social activists and women. The party has also given tickets to a retired IAS and an IPS officer.
Bhaskar Rao, a former IPS and Bengaluru Commissioner, will contest from the Chamrajpet constituency.
