Bengaluru, Apr 10: Former minister K S Eshwarappa on Tuesday announced his retirement from politics, ahead of the Assembly elections in Karnataka on May 10.

Eshwarappa has written a letter in this regard to BJP National President J P Nadda.

Eshwarappa has said in the letter “On my own will I have decided to retire from electoral politics. Hence do not consider my name for any constituency in this Assembly election. I am thankful to the party for giving me an opportunity to serve from booth level to Deputy Chief Minister in 40 years of my political career.’

Eshwarappa was RDPR Minister in Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai’s cabinet till he quit the ministry, after he was accused of abetment to suicide of Belagavi contractor Santosh Patil. However, he came out clean later in the case.

Since then Eshwarappa was lobbying hard for re-entering the cabinet.

As the election was declared, Eshwarappa started lobbying for ticket for his son K E Kanthesh to contest from Shivamogga urban constituency, which he is currently representing in the Assembly.

However, this sudden move of Eshwarappa to quit electoral politics has caught many off-guard, as he was one of the strong Kuruba leaders in the State.
