Bengaluru, April 1: Keeping an eagle’s eye and setting up check posts have yielded results to the Election Commission.

On Saturday, the ECI officials seized in different parts of state cash to the tune of Rs 19 lakhs, silver bar valued Rs 12 lakhs and gold to the extent of 16 Kgs besides thousands of pressure cooker – obviously to be distributed among the voters.

According to the press release of the Office of the Chief Electoral Officer, the officials seized Rs 14 lakh cash near Bhatkal from a car which was moving from Udupi to Karwar.

In Tumkur Rural, thousands of LED bulbs were seized and in Koppal district 16 Kgs of gold bars were seized.

The vigilance squad officials seized pressure cooker worth Rs 8.50 lakh at Dasarahalli in city. These cookers had the photograph of sitting JDS MLA Manjunath.

The police detained two industrialists Kailaschand Jain and Devichandra Jain at Koppal and seized silver worth Rs 9.67 lakh and Rs 1.10 in cash. Both were let off after interrogation.

Tiptur police have registered a case after seizing Rs 6.84 lakh worth of LED bulbs.

The ECI officials have also seized cash to the tune of Rs 2.50 lakh at Kottigehara in Mudigere taluk. Those who were interrogated told the officials that they were carrying cash to offer it to Lord Manjunath at Dharmasthala and Goddess Durgaparameshwari at Kateel.

After the Model Code of Conduct came into force following the announcement of elections, it is an offence to carry cash more than Rs 50,000.

The cash belonged to a couple from Pavagada.

At Kolur village in Ramanagara taluk, the officials seized 30 tonnes of Rice and Rs 1.41 in cash.
