Bengaluru, March 29: Former Chief Minister H. D. Kumaraswamy has welcomed the ECI decision to hold single-phase elections in Karnataka.

“I welcome this decision of the ECI. JDS had no problem with it,” Kumaraswamy said and added, “This is a routine democratic process that take place once in five years”

He urged the Election Commission not to subject farmers and daily wage labourers to harassment in the guise of checking in the check-posts.

“I want the Election Commission to be strict on political parties and candidates who tend to transport money and other undesirable things. This has to be curbed. But in the name of checking, farmers and agricultural laboratories should not be harassed,” Kumaraswamy added.

According to Kumaraswamy, the two national parties have already started luring the voters by offering doles in both cash and kind.

“Our party will bring these aspects into the attention of the Election Commission but I urge the ECI to keep an eagle’s eye on the corrupt practices of the political parties” the JDS President said.
