Bengaluru, March 27: The embattled BJP on Monday was red-faced when its MLA Madal Virupakshappa was arrested on the issue of corruption.
“Madal’s suspension from the party is imminent. Since he is the sitting MLA, we have to seek the permission of the central unit to suspend him,” an office bearer of the BJP, who is also a legislator, told The Newz Peg.
According to sources, state BJP President Nalin Kumar Kateel has spoken to national President Jagat Prakash Nadda as well as party in-charge Arun Singh and apprised them of the development.
“A formal letter along with the press clippings and relevant orders will be sent on Tuesday to the Central Office. The senior leaders will have to meet and take a formal decision,” another legislator said.

BJP sources said that the situation has become very untenable and there is no question of being ambiguous on the issue of corruption.
“Already the party is facing flak after crores of unaccounted money was found in the possession of Madal Virupakshappa. If we delay action against the erring MLA, then we won’t have face to show to public,” sources explained.

Sources also disclosed that the party has already “readied” an alternative candidate following the involvement of Madal Virupakshappa in corruption case in the aftermath of Lok Ayuktha raid.
