Bengaluru, March 23: Senior BJP functionary P.M. Raghunath is the man who first informed Gujarat BJP against Rahul Gandhi for his “derogatory remarks” against the surname Modi.
Speaking to The Newz Peg, Raghunath, a native of Mulbagal, said he was shocked to hear Rahul Gandhi saying “why all thieves have the surname Modi”
“This was atrocious. I was present in the public meeting during 2019 Lok Sabha elections. I immediately called Purnesh Modi, MLA of Surat and told him about this. He asked me to send the audio clipping of the speech. I sent it to Surat where Purnesh Modi filed a defamation case,” Raghunath explained.

The case went on for four years. I was summoned by the Surat court as many as six times. ‘I carried the documents such as press clippings, audio footage and several eyewitness. I was cross-examined many times. I showed the police where I sat in the public meeting and where was the dias. All these were needed as part of the mahazar. Finally the case has reached a logical conclusion,” Raghunath explained.
A RSS activist since his childhood days, 67 year old Raghunath was also a worker of the Bharatiya Jana Sangh. He was a MISA detenue during the draconian emergency and was subjected to physical and mental torture in Mulbagal.

Raghunath was the BJP general secretary of the Undivided Kolar district and had been the Secretary of the BJP OBC Morcha. He had unsuccessfully contested from Mulbagal Assembly Constituency.
“I am happy that our efforts have yielded desired results. The case has reached logical conclusion. I know that this is not the end of the legal battle. I will continue to fight along with Purnesh Modi,” Raghunath said, with tears of joy in his eyes.
