The Punjab Police on Saturday launched a massive manhunt operation to arrested Waris Punjab De chief and Khailstan sympathiser Amritpal Singh. The police launched an operation against the Khalistan sympathiser a day after G-20 Summit concluded in Amritsar.

As police started surrounding his residence, the “Waris Punjab De” chief managed to flee after the police vehicles surrounded his residence. Reports also surfaced that Singh entered Bulandpuri Sahib Gurdwara located at Malsiya road in Jalandhar along with his aides.

Earlier today, the Punjab and Haryana High Court slammed the Punjab police and questioned how Amritpal Singh had given them the slip repeatedly. “You have 80,000 cops. What were they doing. How did Amritpal Singh escape?,” the High Court asked the Punjab government. The court called it an intelligence failure.

The court’s observation came while hearing a habeas corpus petition seeking “release” of Amritpal from the alleged illegal custody of police. Petitioner Imaan Singh Khara, an advocate, claimed that Amritpal has been “illegally and forcibly” detained by the police from the Shahkot area of Jalandhar.
