Mumbai, Mar 15: Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Uddhav Thackeray warned that, opposition parties must unite to save the democracy or else the country will be forced to witness the dictatorship post 2024 polls.
In a meeting held for Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) leaders, he said that BJP has given an option to join them or to go to jail. The unity of MVA was not for forming a government but to save democracy.
In 2019 Undivided Shiv sena had joined hands with ideologically incompatible Congress and NCP. Though MVA remained in power till 2022, Eknath Shindhe led faction parted ways from Uddhav and formed a coalition government with the help of BJP.

Stressing on ideological differences and the necessity to fight against dictatorship Uddhav said that though all three allies have fought for a long time, it’s time to unite at grassroot level and work towards it.
“I appeal to all the three parties to unite and work together irrespective of whether you get a ticket to contest elections to local bodies, state Assembly or Lok Sabha. If we don’t unite at the grassroots, 2024 will be the last election and we will go towards dictatorship,” Thackeray said.
“How could I have fought along with the people who had been sold,” Thackeray asked, referring to criticism that he did nothing to prevent revolt in Shiv Sena last year.
