Bengaluru, Mar 14: Karnataka’s former minister for rural development K S Eshwarappa has defended his “Allah is deaf” comment on Monday. That is what a common man would feel while hearing azaan, he said.
“Loudspeakers of mosques disturb students who are preparing for exams. This is not just my opinion. It is the opinion of common people. Muslims install 4-5 speakers on top of mosques. Will the prayers enter Allah’s ears only then?,” he said.
Further in his defense he said that people should decide whether Allah has ears or not. He won’t comment on it.
“It is true that I asked whether Allah is deaf or not. But, someone had to be the voice of common people,” he added.

What is the controversy:
While addressing BJP Vijaya Sankalpa rally at communal sensitive Mangaluru, K S Eshwarappa made some derogatory statements against Allah and Azaan.
“We also pray at temples. We chant shlokas and the women sing bhajans… In the entire world, the only country protecting dharma is Bharat Mata. But if they have to scream loudly through the mic, then we have to say he (Allah) is deaf. There is no need (for azaan). So, I opine that this issue should be addressed at the earliest,” he had said.
Known for creating headlines for his controversial statements, KSE had earlier told that, Bhagawa flag would replace the Indian tricolor flag very soon.
He also delivered some provocative statements during pro-Hindu activist Harsha’s murder and also took his mortal remains in a procession creating communal tension in Shivamogga.
