Bengaluru, March 10: “The upcoming elections will decide whether our state will be able to breathe free and recover from the toxic suffocating atmosphere of today’s politics or not” states an appeal signed by senior activists of the civil society.
The appeal is the beginning of a state-wide campaign named “Eddelu Karnataka” (Wake up Karnataka) in order to mobilize public opinion against, what they called, “corrupt, communal and caustic BJP regime” that had unleashed chaos and crisis in the state.

The appeal is very clear about the goal – the incumbent government must be defeated rather than who should come to power next.
“There is a chance before the people to bring Karnataka out of this catastrophic situation. Elections are the right opportunity to throw this BJP government, lock, stock and barrel,” the appeal stated.
The appeal further stayed that this BJP government came to power through ‘Operation Kamala’ which was essentially subversion of democracy. “Corruption in this government has reached unprecedented levels. There is no semblance of governance. The MLA accused in the corruption case celebrates on the streets of his constituency. This is shameful,” the appeal stated.

According to these intellectuals, who have signed the appeal, discontent among the people against the government is intense and widespread. This discontent should be translated into vote against the ruling dispensation,” the appeal stated.
The appeal is signed by writers Devanuru Mahadeva, Rahmat Tarikere, Purushotham Bilimale, A. R. Vasavi and Vijayamma.
