Bengaluru, March 8: The Congress party on Wednesday lambasted the BJP and accused the saffron party of “rejoicing and celebrating” corruption and the corrupt.
Prof Radhakrishna, Vice Chairman of the Congress party’s manifesto drafting committee, told The Newz Peg that the manner in which Madal Virupakshappa, accused in multi-crore bribery case, was welcomed by according him a grand reception by party workers in his home town, goes on to prove that the BJP is “shameless” and celebrates corruption and the corrupt.
“I am appalled that neither the central leadership nor the state leadership of the BJP has pulled up the errant MLA. Instad, the saffron party has allowed thousands of its workers to receive the MLA in a grand reception at his home town. The saffron party is shameless to the core,” Prof Radhakrishna said.
It may be recalled that Madal Virupakshappa, Channagiri BJP MLA, who was absconding following Lok Ayukta raid on his residence, got interim anticipatory bail from the Karnataka High Court. He returned to his home town, Channagiri from his hideout where thousands of his supporters and party workers accorded him a grand reception.
Madal Virupakshappa, on his part, asserted that he is not at all wrong and all the money found by Lok Ayukta are all accounted. “Our family runs business enterprises. We own arecanut garden. We are agriculturists. We will submit account to each and every pie,” he told reporters, standing on his decorated jeep near his residence.
However, Prof Radhakrishna dismissed this argument and said, “Accounts are submitted periodically, not after the Lok Ayukta has seized huge cash. All that Madal Virupakshappa says is after-thought and tutored. But the question here is not whether the money is white or not. The issue is the propriety of according him a grand welcome, as if he has returned victorious from a war. This is downright disgusting. The BJP is setting a very bad precedence”
