Bengaluru, February 15: Bhadravathi MLA Sangamesh on Tuesday urged the state government to take over Vishweshwaraiah Iron and Steel Ltd (VISL) and revive it in the interest of thousands of youths.

Participating in the Assembly proceedings, Samgamesh said it was most unfortunate that the Centre has decided to close down VISL instead of reviving it.

“VISL has potential to provide employment to thousands of youths. It is the pride of Karnataka as it was started by none other than Sir M. Vishweshwaraiah,” Sangamesh said.

The Bhadravathi MLA was of the view that the plant was deliberately ignored and allowed to die. “The policy changes hit the plant very hard. In fact, the policy ought to have helped the plant to revive but it did not happen that way,” he explained.

According to Sangamesh, the VISL is still potential enough to provide employment as well as cater to the needs of the steel industry.

“We must have a very fine marketing policy and technique where the industry is made mandatory to buy steel from VISL plant,” he said.

Sangamesh appealed to the entire House to join him in this cause as “the issue was that of the pride and honour” of the entire state and not confined to Bhadravathi.
