Bengaluru, February 9: The 80th birthday of former Karnataka Chief Minister B. S. Yediyurappa is going to be memorable as Prime Minister Narendra Modi is going to felicitate him during the inauguration of the newly built airport at Shimoga.

“The IAF helicopters carrying the Prime Minister will land at the newly-built Shivamogga airport. Modi ji will Inaugurate the airport. We have requested the Prime Minister to felicitate Yediyurappa during the function on the occasion of BSY’s 80th birthday,” a party leader told The Newz Peg.
Born on 27th February in 1943 at Bhookanakere in K. R. Pet taluk of Mandya district, Yediyurappa left his birth place and came to Bangalore in early 50s. He came in contact with the RSS at Sriramapuram. The Sangh leadership sent him to Shikaripura in early 60s. Thus, Shikaripura became BSY’s “Karmabhoomi”
The BJP and the state government wants the icing on the cake in the form of naming the airport at Shimoga after Yediyurappa.

“Just think over. 27th February is BSY 80th birthday. It is on this day the airport inauguration will take place. How fantastic it will be if the Ministry of Civil Aviation agrees to name the airport as Yediyurappa Airport. We are trying for that,” Dattatri, former district President of Shimoga BJP told The Newz Peg.
The plan to have an airport at Shimoga existed for a long time. But the work attained pace only after Yediyurappa became Deputy Chief Minister in 2006 and later the work picked momentum when he became Chief Minister in 2008.

In fact, Yediyurappa personally monitored the quality and pace of the work almost in weekly basis during his visit to Shimoga during his tenure as Chief Minister.
While Modi’s helicopters will land at Shimoga airport in February 27 for inaugural function, the first commercial flight from Shimoga to Bangalore will commence the next day, that is February 2
