Bengaluru, February 6: JDS President and former Chief Minister H. D. Kumaraswamy on Sunday rode into controversy when he said that the RSS killed Mahatma Gandhi and they are Brahmins.

However, Kumaraswamy quickly changed tack and said, “Those Brahmins who killed Gandhi are from Maharashtra and have nothing to do with Karnataka Brahmins.”

In order to target the BJP, Kumaraswamy said that Union Minister Prahallad Joshi belonged to the same community as like Nathuram Godse.

“Beware, the RSS has decided to make Prahallad Joshi – a Brahmin who belonged to that community of Brahmins who killed Gandhi – as chief minister. Vote wisely,” Kumaraswamy said.

By targeting Brahmins and linking it to the RSS, Joshi and killing of Mahatma, Kumaraswamy has embarked upon an exercise to mobilize and consolidate the Non-Brahmin votes by bringing in the name of Gandhi and his assassination by Godse, a Brahmin.

“This strategy is to push BJP to the corner but this will not cut much ice. Gandhi’s assassination is irrelevant now and non – Brahmin communities won’t be able to connect with Kumaraswamy’s worn-out theory,” BJP General Secretary and MLC N. Ravi Kumar told The Newz Peg.

Realizing that the Brahmins in Karnataka would be angry with his statement, Kumaraswamy immediately rectified himself by saying that “Maharashtra Brahmins like Godse and Prahallad Joshi have nothing to do with Karnataka Brahmins”
