Bengaluru, February 5: ‘Now it has been proved beyond doubt that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is not only intolerant but also pursues hate politics,” Senior Congress leader Prof Radhakrishna told The Newz Peg here on Sunday.
He was responding to the question on the Union Government’s decision to remove tax exemption benefit under 80G to three trusts named after Nehru, Indira and Rajiv.

In the budget presented by finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman few days ago, it is proposed to end the tax exemption benefit under 80G to three trusts – Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial Fund, Indira Gandhi Memorial Trust and Rajiv Gandhi Foundation.
The government says that these three trusts/foundations which were automatically eligible for Section 80G benefit, will now have to come under the regular route for tax cut.
This amendment will come into effect from April 1, 2024.
Chairman of the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) Nitin Gupta said that these trusts/foundation are registered under Section 12A, seek the benefit of 80G registration and 80G (benefit) is granted. These trusts are already registered under 12A and hence they should come under normal course with the approval of the Commissioner. These trusts are not eligible for tax exemption automatically,” Gupta explained.

But Prof Radhakrishna is not convinced by this argument.
“These trusts have been strengthening cultural and democratic institutions in the country. This sledgehammer blow on these trusts is wrong. In fact, this Modi’s dictatorial tendency goes against the spirit of Vajpayee,” Prof Radhakrishna added.
