New Delhi, Feb 4: Additional sessions judge of Delhi Saket court Arul Verma on Saturday discharged Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) student Sharjeel Imam and activist Asif Iqbal Tanha in a case related to the violence that erupted between Delhi Police and protesters against CAA in 2019.
As per the argument of prosecution, Imam had allegedly made speeches on December 2019 at Jamia Milia Islamia University and Aligarh Muslim University, where he threatened to cut off Assam and other states in the Northeast from India.

Imam and Asif were granted bail in 2021. However, Imam would continue to be in jail under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act in the conspiracy case related to the February 2020 northeast Delhi riots.
Police had registered an FIR under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including rioting, in connection with the communal violence that erupted after a clash between police and people protesting against CAA.
As per the prosecution, Imam allegedly made speeches at Jamia Milia Islamia University on December 13, 2019 and at the Aligarh Muslim University on December 16, 2019, where he threatened to cut off Assam and other states in the Northeast from the rest of India.
