Bengaluru, January 30: Sankey Lake Team, a newly formed committee, has convened a meeting of residents and traders of Malleshwaram, Vyalikaval and Upper and Lower Palace Orchards on Tuesday to discuss the pros and cons of the proposed flyover that has been planned above the existing road adjacent to Sankey tank.
The meeting will be moderated by Prakash Belavadi, theatre artist and journalist which will be attended by Ashish Verma of the Indian Institute of Science and Prahallad, Engineer – in – Chief of the BBMP and several others.

The contention of the Sankey Lake Team is that the BBMP is going to uproot 50 well-built trees all along the Sankey Road to construct this flyover.
“The solution – flyover – is worst than the disease. It is proposed to construct the flyover from Cauvery junction till the other end of the Sankey Road very near to the 18th Cross Malleshwaram. The traffic clog near Cauvery junction will be shifted to Malleshwaram. That’s all. This flyover will not any purpose,” a member of the Sankey Lake Team told The Newz Peg.

Sankey Lake Team Members cited the instance of Shivananda Steel Bridge which has not served the purpose.
“The traffic clogging got shifted that’s all. Even the box (under pass) near CNR Rao circle is closed ever since it was built because it is not going to serve the purpose. The proposed Sankey flyover is also going to prove a waste,” Sankey Lake Team members say.

Apart from spending crores of rupees, 50 trees are going to be cut and the entire ambience will be lost. Sankey Lake is one such area in Bangalore which still has the old ambience. The proposed flyover is going to ugly the area, says several residents of Vyalikaval.

Tuesday’s meeting will work out alternative solution to the growing problem of traffic. Residents are of the view that there can be an alternative if the authorities have an open mind.
