After Panchamsali community, now it is Balija samaj to demand reservation under 2A category

Bengaluru, January 27: The Balija community has urged the state government to bring them under 2A category and provide reservation.
A convention was held on Friday at Freedom Park. M. R. Seetharam, former Legislator who belongs to the M.S.Ramaiah Group of Institutions, said the total population of Balija community is 40 lakhs and has all the criteria to be brought under 2A category.

“In 2011, Balija community was given reservations in education sector. We demand that we be provided reservation under 2A so that we get other benefits including employment,” Seetharam said in his address.
According to Seetharam, Balija community was considered as BC from 1953 to 1994. In 1994, the Balija community was shifted out of 2A and categorized under 3B.

“We have poor people in our community. Our youths need employment and job opportunities. We should be brought under 2A category,” he added.
Interestingly Congress leader and Gandhinagar MLA Dinesh Gundu Rao and senior Congress leader and former Assembly Speaker Ramesh Kumar too spoke at the convention in support of the demand.
Chairman of M. S. Ramaiah group of Institutions M.R.Jayaram presided over the convention.

Later speaking to reporters, Seetharam said he has convened a meeting of senior leaders of Balija community to chalk out future Course of action.
