New Delhi, January 18: The production of advanced AK – 203 assault rifles has started in India and the first batch will be delivered soon, Alexander Mikhev, Director General of Rosoboronexport, a Russian Agency, confirmed here on Tuesday.
Mikhev said, “Korwa Ordinance factory at Amethi in Uttar Pradesh has produced the first batch of 7.62 MM Kalashnikov AK – 203 rifles. The beginning of deliveries to Indian Army is expected soon”
India is the first country to produce the AK – 203 series assault rifles which, as per the company, has retained all the advantages of the traditional AK scheme, including reliability, durability and ease of maintenance.

“At the same time, it (the new AK – 203 series) meet all the requirements for firearms in the world in terms of ergonomics and the ability to mount hi-tech additional equipment,” a top official explained.
The Indian Army the entire consignment of rifles in 128 months. As per the recent statement made by Army Chief Manoj Pande, “Out of six lakh and odd AK – 203 rifles, we will receive 70,000 in 32 months. Whereas the first batch of 5000 rifles will be delivered in March this year”
The AK – 203 rifles will replace the ageing Indian Small Arms System (INSAS).

The Contract for producing a little over six lakhs AK – 203 rifles was signed in December 2021 between the Ministry of Defence and Indo -Russian Rifles Private Ltd.
“With the launch of series production of Kalashnikov AK – 203 assault rifles, high – quality, convenient and modern small-arms will enter the services. This is one of the best assault rifles in the world,” said Sergey Chemezov, Director General of Rostec, a Russian Agency.
