New Delhi, January 13: Amid the prevailing tension along the Line of Actual Control with China, there has been an increase in the number of troops on the Chinese side in the Eastern sector, said Chief of Army Staff General Manoj Pande on Thursday.

There has been build up of the infrastructure towards the LAC and the Indian Army is prepared and equipped to deal with any situation, General Pande added.
Speaking to the media on the occasion of the annual Army Day press conference, General Pande said that there has been a slight increase in the number of troops on the side of our adversary in the Eastern sector. We are consistently monitoring the developments there”

“The situation is stable and under control but yet unpredictable. You are aware of the on-going talks where we have been able to resolve five out of seven issues that were on the table. The talks are going on both at the diplomatic level as well as at the military level” General Pande added.

The Chief of Army Staff asserted that the preparedness level of the Indian Army is of high level standard and have adequate forces as well as adequate reserves in each of the sectors in order to be able to effectively deal with any situation.
It may be recalled that keeping the troop accretion on the Chinese side in May 2020, Indian Army began reorientation of its forces as per the new and emerging threat assessment.

“The strategic rebalancing of the troops that was undertaken sometime ago has been completed. Now, we have been able to maintain a very robust defensive posture and prevent any attempts from our adversary to unilaterally change the status quo in a firm and resolute manner,” General Manoj Pande explained.
India celebrates Army Day on January 15 every year. That was the day on which General K. M. Cariappa took over as the first Indian Chief of Army Staff in 1948.
