Chandigarh, January 11: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday visited Golden Temple ahead of the Punjab leg of the Bharat Jodo Yatra.
While the BJP asked the people to boycott the Bharat Jodo Yatra, the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), the highest decision-making body of the Sikh Community, asked the Congress leader to express his views on June 1984 Operation Bluestar and anti-sikh riots during 80s.

It may be recalled that the then Prime Minister Smt Indira Gandhi had ordered Army action inside Golden temple to flush out Khalistani terrorists led by Jarnail Singh Bhindrabwale. The Army had named it as “Operation Bluestar” that took place between 3rd and 6th of June in 1984.
Angered by her decision to send in the Army inside Golden Temple, Indira Gandhi was assassinated by her own security guards belonging to the Sikh community on 30th October the same year.

SAD leader Maheshender Singh Grewal said Rahul Gandhi should tell the people of Punjab during his Bharat Jodo Yatra if he justify and defend the Operation Bluestar or condemn it.
“Rahul Gandhi should also clarify as to why the successive Congress governments at the Centre did not implement Rajiv-Longowal accord according to which Chandigarh should be transferred to Punjab,” Grewal added.
Meanwhile, Rahul Gandhi visited Golden Temple on Wednesday before commencing his Bharat Jodo Yatra on Thursday.
