Bengaluru, January, 2 : Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s statement that Karnataka’s Nandini and Gujarat’s Amul could work together has raised political storm in Karnataka. Both Congress and JDS have got a big stick to beat the BJP.
Both the Opposition parties have accused the BJP of imposing its economic might on Karnataka and thus snatch away Karnataka’s wealth and identity.

“After attempts to impose Hindi failed, now the BJP wants to merge the identity of Nandini with Amul. Nothing doing. We will oppose this tooth and nail,” former Chief Minister and JDS President H. D. Kumaraswamy said.
Leader of the Opposition Siddaramaiah lambasted BJP for its ‘intolerance’ towards the ‘tolerant’ people of Karnataka.

“BJP wants to dominate each and every area by hook or crook. This mindset is dangerous. This attempt to merge the identity of Nandini with Amul will be opposed,” Siddaramaiah said.
Both Siddaramaiah and Kumaraswamy said that Nandini was making good profits and had helped 26 lakh farmers. “There is no question of Karnataka losing its identity,” the leaders have added.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai and Cooperation Minister S. T. Somashekar have denied of having any proposal to merge Nandini with Amul.

“Amit Shah’s statement has been misinterpreted. He never suggested merger of the two milk unions. All that he suggested was that the two unions could work together in terms of improving technological-knowhow and marketing techniques, Bommai explained.
