Shivamogga, Dec 29: A week after BJP MP Pragya Thakur made an explosive and controversial statement, Shivamogga town police filed an FIR against her on Wednesday.
The case was registered under sections 153 (A), 153 (B), 268, 295 (A), 298, 504 and 508 of the Indian Penal Code.
The charges include attempt to incite communal violence, breach of peace, disrupt harmony, peace and tranquility and intended to outrage religious sentiments.

It may be recalled that Sadhvi Pragya Thakur had called upon the Hindus to “keep the knives sharpened” to repulse the attack by anti-social elements in the event of attempt to attack our Hindu girls and women.
“We must learn to defend ourselves. There is no other way. Offence is the best form of Defence for which we need to keep our weapons such as knives sharpened and ready” Sadhvi Pragya Thakur had said while addressing a conference of Hindu youths at Shivamogga recently.

The Congress, JDS and other social outfits had protested against “such blatant endorsement of violence” and had urged the state government to initiate action against the controversial BJP MP from Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh.
The Supreme Court had recently said that the police must act against hate speeches even without a complaint. “Hate speech is a blot on our secular, peaceful and civil society,” the apex court had stated.
