Guwahati, Dec 24: The BJP government in Arunachal Pradesh has taken several steps to reform the inmates of Central Jail.
The first among several steps is to rename Central Jail as “correctional centers”. “We want to transform the prisoners during their stay in the correctional center and make them proud partners in the progress of the society,” Chief Minister Pema Khandu has said.

It is not just renaming as correctional center. The state government has also appointed “chaplains” (religious teachers) of all denominations who impart teachings from various religious texts. “We have also appointed psychological counsellors to counsel the prisoners,” the chief minister added.

There are two objectives in appointing psychological counsellors. The first is to prevent them from going back to crime. The second is to make them realize that what they did was a mistake in life.

“Unless we don’t realize our mistake there cannot be a correctional course,” Pema Khandu added abs said, “We will prevail upon them that moral and ethically sound behavior of individuals are the prerequisite for a healthy society”

There is going to music teachers who will teach them different kinds of music including instruments.
The prisoners will be provided skill training depending upon their attitude so that they will be equipped to undertake vocation after they get into the society.
