New Delhi, Dec 21: Mysore-Kodagu BJP MP Prathap Simha has appealed to Union Minister Nitin Gadkari to name Bangalore-Mysore Expressway after Cauvery River.
“Mother Cauvery River is the lifeline of South Karnataka. It is one among the seven holy rivers mentioned in Rig Veda since time immemorial. The Expressway along Yamuna has been named Yamuna Expressway and the Expressway along river Ganga is named Ganga Expressway. So, it is in the fitness of things that the Bangalore-Mysore Expressway is named after River Cauvery,” Prathap Simha has stated in his letter addressed to Gadkari on Wednesday.

Prathap Simha personally called on Gadkari at the Parliament House office to handover the letter and place his request.
According to Prathap Simha, River Cauvery has its origin at Talacauvery in Kodagu district – part of his Mysore-Kodagu constituency.
“River Cauvery has shaped the life and culture of millions of people since time immemorial. It is part of people’s every day life. Cauvery is providing drinking water to Bangalore City. Irrigation in Mandya district is going on due to Cauvery river. The Expressway that runs between Bangalore and Mysore should be named Cauvery Expressway, Prathap Simha stated in his letter.
