Bangalore, Dec 20: BJP General Secretary and MLC N. Ravi Kumar on Tuesday said that he will raise the Halal certification issue on the floor of the legislative council very shortly. “I have sought time for discussion on this issue,” Ravi Kumar said, in an exclusive chat with The Newz Peg over phone from Belagavi.
According to Ravi Kumar there is little information on the issue of Halal certification but this (Halal certification) has grown far and wide. “In fact, this Halal certification is being done not only to meat products but also to food grains and vegetables. This is something strange. I have done some study on this issue and will take up in the council in a big way,” he added.
Ravi Kumar said every shop owner or proprietor of any mall are required to pay Rs 60,000 per year for Halal certification of each and every product that runs into several hundred crores. “Who authorized Halal agency to certify the food products? Are they technically qualified to certify the products. In fact, it is being applied even to the cosmetics also,” Ravi Kumar said and added, “This is is something ominous”
He is of the view that this Halal certification is a global conspiracy of the Islamic world and according to one estimate, the turn over through this Halal certificate per annum runs to several hundred crores.
“Where does this money go? Who are the beneficiaries. We need to go deep into this,” said Ravi Kumar.
The quality of food products are certified under the Indian Food Safety and Security Act by the Department of Food and Civil Supplies of the state government and the Ministry of Consumer Affairs of the Government of India. “But where did this Halal certification come from? Who authorized it? I will unearth the mystery behind this strange but ominous development,” Ravi Kumar said.
Asked if the BJP will take up this issue and make it a campaign issue, Ravi Kumar said, “The issue of Halal certification has not yet been discussed in detail in the party. First, I will make a deep study. I will raise the issue in the council. After, I receive the response from the government, I will take up the issue with the party leadership”
