New Delhi, Nov. 28: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday hailed the country’s start-up culture and said that people are now not only dreaming of becoming job seekers but also becoming job creators.
In his 83rd edition of monthly radio programme Mann Ki Baat (Inner Thoughts), Mr Modi said that a few years ago if someone wanted to do business or wants to start a new company, then, the elders in the family used to pester him/her to find a job instead.
“Elders used to say – Why don’t you want to do a job, have a job. There is security in the job, there is salary. The hassle is also less. This was the response from elders, whenever anyone wished to do a business. But the scenario has changed now, if someone wants to start their own company today,” he pointed out.
He added that today all the people around the person who wants to start a business are very excited and also fully supportive of him or her. “This is the turning point of India’s growth story, where people are now not only dreaming of becoming job seekers but also becoming job creators. This will further strengthen India’s stature on the global stage,” he claimed.
Observing that these days, all are hearing about Start-ups from every corner, he said “It is true, this is the era of start-up, and it is also true that in the world of start-up, India is leading in a way in the world today. Start-ups are getting record investment year after year.”
He added that the start-up sector is progressing very fast. “The reach of start-ups have come to us even in small towns of the country. These days the word ‘Unicorn’ is in vogue. You all must have heard about it. ‘Unicorn’ is a start-up whose valuation is at least 1 Billion Dollars, that is more than about seven thousand crore rupees,” he said.
The PM said that in every country with a large youth population, three aspects matter a lot. “Sometimes, it becomes the true identity of the youth. The first aspect is – Ideas and Innovation. The second is the spirit of taking risks and the third is the Can Do Spirit, that is, the determination to accomplish any task, no matter how adverse the circumstances be – when these three things combine, phenomenal results are produced, miracles happen,” he said
He further said that till the year 2015, there used to be hardly nine or ten Unicorns in the country. “You will be very happy to know that now India is flying high even in the world of Unicorns. According to a report, a big change has come this year. In just 10 months, a unicorn is being raised in India every 10 days. This is also a big thing because our youth have achieved this success in the midst of the corona pandemic,” he observed.
