Heavy rain continues across Indian coasts

Bengaluru, July 05: Amid the continuous heavy rainfall in Karnataka, Dakshina Kannada deputy commissioner (DC) Dr. K V Rajendra and Udupi DC Kurma Rao M declared a holiday for July 5 for all the educational institutions in the districts. The decision comes after IMD predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall in the state.
“Widespread rainfall with thunderstorm/lightning very likely over Marathwada and North Interior Karnataka during next 5 days and isolated heavy rainfall likely over Marathwada on 06th & 07th and over North Interior Karnataka during 04th-06th July 2022,” predicted IMD.
IMD predicted, that isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall and thunderstorm/lightning are very likely over Gujarat State, Konkan and Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam, Telangana, Coastal and South Interior Karnataka, Kerala, and Mahe during the next 5 days. The Met department predicted isolated extremely heavy rainfall also likely over south Gujarat Region and ghat areas of Madhya Maharashtra on 08th and over Konkan, Goa on July 7 and July 8, 2022.
Mumbai to witness heavy rain till Friday:
Mumbai has been witnessing heavy rain amid monsoon arrival. Along with heavy rains, As downpour lashed the city on Monday, witnessed scenes of waterlogging and traffic congestion in several areas.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted “moderate to heavy rainfall” for Mumbai and its suburbs and the possibility of “very heavy to extremely heavy” showers at isolated places for the next few days.’
The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams have been deployed in the city in the wake of the alert issued by the Weather Department, officials said. Newly sworn-in Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has directed the authorities in Mumbai and neighboring districts to be on alert and keep a vigil.”In the wake of heavy rainfall in various parts of the state, CM Eknath Shinde held a discussion with Chief Secretary Manukumar Srivastava along with directing all the related districts’ guardian secretaries to keep a vigil and control the situation,” his office tweeted.
Meanwhile, the Chiplun area in the Ratnagiri district also suffered from heavy rainfall halting several day-to-day activities in the area.
