Will make preparations for Greater Bengaluru elections over the next four months: DCM DK Shivakumar

Mysuru, May 16: Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar today said preparations for the Greater Bengaluru elections would be done over the next four months.

Speaking to reporters at Mysuru airport, he said, “Preparations for the Greater Bengaluru elections would be done over the next four months. The zonal divisions and reservation list will be worked on first. There is no point in postponing the elections.”

Asked when the elections for Greater Bengaluru Authority would be be held in view of Governor’s consent for the Bill, he said, “We will hold an all-party meeting and take their feedback on formation of zones. The legislators have already given their suggestions in the House. As much as 90% of the recommendations by the Cabinet Sub Committee has been considered. Considering the amount of time it would take to form new structure, elections would be held in the existing form. Elections will be held taking everyone into confidence.”

Asked about Opposition Leader R Ashok dubbing Greater Bengaluru as ‘Quarter Bengaluru’, he said, “He should object to the Bill in the beginning itself, why did he agree to pass the Bill in the House?”

Asked if there is a delay in renaming of Ramanagara district as Bengaluru South district he said, “Who said there is a delay? It will be announced at an auspicious time. We will inform you soon.”

Asked about Congress party’s decision not to use Pahalgam terror attack for political gains, he said, “It is our collective stand that nation is bigger than any individual or a party. We had informed the PM that our party would stand by any decision taken by him.”

“Leaders of other countries are commenting on India’s self respect. We are a country that has never bowed its head before any country since Indira Gandhi’s time. We have asked the PM to discuss these things in the Parliament. It is our right to know what’s happening.”

Asked about illegal resorts around Kabini, he said, “Make a list of illegal resorts and give it me, will deliberate on that.”

Replying to a question on his birthday celebrations, he said, “I did not celebrate the birthday this year, hence took time off with family in the midst of Nature. Need your blessings.”
