Sringeri: Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar today said that he would work as per the wishes of the Congress party and said he was not looking for support from any quarters.
“As per the Sanskrit saying ‘Karmanye Vaadikaarasthe…’, I put in the effort and leave the results to God. I don’t want anyone’s support and I will do what the Party wants me to do,” he said speaking to reporters at the Sringeri helipad.
Asked about the demand of Party workers that he should become the next CM, he said, “I do not want anyone putting pressure on my behalf. I do not want anyone’s support. I don’t want any MLA to shout out his support for me. It is between the Congress party and me. I will do what ever the Party wants me to do. I am just doing my duty.”
Asked about some interpreting his recent spate of temple visits as ‘temple run’, he said, “I am believer of Dharma. I offer prayers everyday. I pray for the welfare of the state, my wellwishers and myself. If praying is dubbed as temple run, all the temples must be closed.”
CM and I are working as per Party’s instructions
When pointed out that there have been significant turns in his political career whenever he visited Sringeri, he said, “One need not read too much into it, I don’t need any turns in my life. The people have blessed me and have given me an opportunity. We will govern the state for five years. The CM and I will work as per the Party’s instructions. What others say does not matter.”
Asked about his visit to Sringeri, he said, “Today is an auspicious day. It is 50 years since Sri Bharathi Theertha swamy took over responsibility at the mutt. The swamiji has been involved in dharmic activities without interfering in politics. I have a special faith in Swamiji. Rajiv Gandhi had decided to set up Sanskrit Vidyapeeth here. I have been invited to an auspicious event. I am participating in this event on behalf of the government and in my individual capacity.”
