New Delhi, May 25: Union Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy has alleged that Karnataka Home Minister Dr. G. Parameshwara is being deliberately targeted in a gold smuggling case as part of an internal power struggle within the Congress party. He claimed the real motive is to sideline Dalit leadership and elevate a rival leader to the Chief Minister’s post. Addressing the media from his official residence in New Delhi, Kumaraswamy pointed to a conspiracy by a powerful Congress leader, suggesting that Parameshwara’s recent political activity — including efforts to organize a Dalit convention and engage with national leadership — may have triggered this backlash. Kumaraswamy referred to earlier statements made by Minister Rajanna in the state assembly, which hinted at the existence of a politically influential figure involved in surveillance and manipulation tactics. He connected these remarks to the current targeting of Parameshwara. He also raised questions about how a Congress insider knew that a woman was smuggling gold from Dubai — information that was eventually leaked to authorities. Kumaraswamy questioned whether the Intelligence Department, which reports directly to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, was truly unaware of these developments.
According to him, the gold smuggling case was being used as a tool to damage Parameshwara’s credibility and derail his leadership ambitions. He suggested that the person aiming to succeed Siddaramaiah as Chief Minister was orchestrating the entire episode from behind the scenes. Kumaraswamy further criticized the Congress party for blaming the central government while ignoring the internal power politics unfolding within their own ranks. He noted that despite forming various investigative bodies like SITs and committees, no real accountability had emerged. He concluded by challenging the Congress party’s claims of transparent governance, questioning the burden placed on the public under the pretense of fulfilling promises.
