Actress Ranya Rao Remanded to 15 Days of Judicial Custody in Gold Smuggling Case

Bengaluru: Actress Ranya Rao has been arrested by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) in connection with a gold smuggling case. After interrogation, the court has remanded her to 15 days of judicial custody, following which she has been sent to Parappana Agrahara Jail.

Custody Ends, DRI Seeks Extension

Ranya Rao was in DRI custody for three days for interrogation. As this period ended today, she was produced before the court. However, officials sought an extension of her custody for further investigation.

Interrogation Based on Technical Evidence

The DRI clarified that their investigation was based purely on technical evidence and denied any allegations of coercion or physical assault. They stated that Ranya was under 24-hour CCTV surveillance during questioning and that a complete video recording of the interrogation is available.

Ranya Breaks Down in Court

During the court proceedings, Ranya reportedly broke down in tears. However, the DRI officials maintained that no threats, mental harassment, or coercive tactics were used during the questioning.

Judicial Custody and Jail Transfer

After reviewing the case, the court ordered 15 days of judicial custody for Ranya Rao. She has now been shifted to Parappana Agrahara Central Prison in Bengaluru. Further developments in the case are awaited.
