Bengalore : The results of the Lok Sabha elections in the state are out. The BJP-JDS alliance won 19 seats, while the Congress won 9 seats. But the caste calculations are showing Okkaliga vote are still with JD(S).

Karnataka Congress carrying the victory batton of Vidhanasabha election expected atleast 20 seats, but results has given jolt to KPCC president and DCM D K Shivakumar.

Congress has achieved vote share in the state by getting 45.34%. BJP got 46.04% vote share. JDS got 5.60% vote share this time. Congress has increased its vote share compared to last time. The vote share of BJP and JDS has decreased compared to last time. But here is a report on how community-wise vote equalization has worked out behind the defeat of congress in Old Mysore region.

What is Old Mysore Region? Okkaligas caste power?

Hassan,Mysore, Mandya, Bengaluru, Kolar, Chamrajanagara, Chitradurga,Coorg, and Chikamagalur is known as old Mysore region. And the dominant Okkaliga or Gowda community has 15% of State Population. And most of the okkaliga community is in old mysore region.

Former PM H D Devegowda, DCM K Shivakumar, oppositions leader R Ashoka and many leaders are from Okkaliga community. Apart from Lingayath community Okkaligas constitute major community in Karnataka.

Gowdas have supported BJP-JDS alliance:

This time in the Lok Sabha elections, the constituencies of South Karnataka have largely fallen to JD(S) and BJP. Both JD(S) and BJP candidates have won in single-dominated constituencies. Thus, this time in the Lok Sabha elections, the votes of one in Old Mysore and South Karnataka have been consolidated for BJP and JDS. In Chikkaballapur, dominated by Okkaliga, 53.74%, 58.34% in Mandya, 53.59% in Mysore, 51.02% in Kolar, 56.21% in Bangalore Rural, 55.31% in Tumkur, Dosti candidates have achieved a huge victory. JDS has regained the stronghold of Okkaligas.

In the last assembly elections, Congress had won in Old Mysore. the Congress had attracted the votes of the Okkaliga community, D K Shivakumar had given hints of becoming Chief Minister and had seeked community support and asked to “give pen” which means power . However, in the Lok Sabha elections held after the year of the assembly elections, the votes of gowdas likely went towards the JDS and the BJP. JDS-BJP Alliance jas lost in Hassan Hasan only but in Mandya, Chikkaballapur, Mysore, Kolar, Tumkur, Bangalore Rural and Bengaluru City, Chikkamagaluru Districts, alliance candidates have won a landslide victory as the combined votes are significantly for the BJP and JDS alliance.

Vote of Lingayat/Maratha community leaning towards :

Looking at the results of the Lok Sabha elections in the state, the Lingayat votes are also largely in favor of the candidates of the alliance parties. Majority of the Lingayat community in Central Karnataka has mobilized for BJP and JDS alliance candidates. In the last assembly elections, the votes of the Lingayat community were overwhelmingly towards the Congress. But the Lingayat community is seen as a rallying point for the BJP and its Dosti Party candidate in the Lok Sabha. Thus, in most of the constituencies of Central Karnataka, Dosti candidates have won by a margin of more than one lakh votes.

In most of the constituencies in North Karnataka, the Lingayat and Maratha community votes have shifted back to the BJP in a big way. In Belagavi, Hubli, Dharwad, Bagalkote, Haveri, Vijayapur, Chitradurga, Lingayat community votes seem to be in BJP’s hands. BJP has won by a margin of more than one lakh votes in most places.

Congress still holds of Minority,Backward,Dalit votes:

The votes of the minorities in the state are literally a total consolidation of the Congress in this Loksabha election. Especially in Kalyana Karnataka, the (Minority, Backward, Dalit) votes have been mobilized towards the Congress. Kuruba votes in Kalyan Karnataka, Dalit community votes are heavily skewed towards Congress candidates. Thus, the Congress candidates have won in Kalaburgi, Raichur, Bidar, Koppal, Bellary almost due to the accumulation of unopposed votes.

Overall the Loksabha election 2024 based on the leadership AICC Mallikarjun Kharge candidates in Kalyana Karnataka region has won, but old Mysore region dominated by Vokkaliga and Lingayath voters have voted for BJP-JDS dosti .
