A fire broke out in a tea shop in tirunelveli Town due to cylinder explosion. 6 persons in the shop including employee Mariappan were injured. Pettah Fire and Rescue Station personnel headed by Station Officer Balasubramaniam rushed to douse the fire.

In various places across Tamil Nadu, cooking gas cylinders are usually placed in public places and food items are prepared in public places without any safety measures. Social activists and public have now suggested that the consumer department should monitor whether such cooking gas cylinders are properly maintained.

As gas cylinders are being widely used in all the existing shops like bus stations, railway stations, entrances of cinema theaters, night shops, the public has suggested that the maintenance work and safety procedures for them should be defined.

The Tirunelveli Fire Station informs about this that standing and having fun at such fire accident sites will cause great danger. Members of the public should not approach to take pictures on their cell phones or to assist.
In case of fire, they are advised to inform the fire station immediately.
