The Congress Government in Karnataka led by Shri Siddaramaiah and Shri DK Shivakumar completes a year in office on May 20th. The Government has worked tirelessly in such a short span of time and won the praise of innumerable people. The Congress Government has spread the ideology of equality and equity while working impartially for all communities. Our Guarantees are a manner of ensuring this and is reaching 4.60 crore beneficiaries said Karnataka Incharge Shri Randeep Singh Surjewala.
While addressing the media regarding the completion of the Government’s one year, he said our government is not only one which works on roads, bridges and infrastructure but also one which works to uplift the poor, women, farmers, working class, bring them to the mainstream and ensure their overall development. Our Guarantee Schemes are not only a model for the state and country but also world over for being a model of holistic development and progress for all.
During the State Assembly Elections, we didn’t just promise the people of the state the guarantees, we gave them signed Guarantee Cards as a promise that we would fulfill. After being blessed with a majority, we didn’t sit idle for even a second and within just 9 months ensured that every one of our 5 Guarantees; Annabhagya, Gruhajyoti, Gruhalakshmi, Shakti and Yuvanidhi were implemented. Even the Centre refusing us rice for Annabhagya didn’t deter us and deposited money equivalent to 5kg to beneficiaries and ensured we delivered as promised.
Our Direct Benefit Transfer to the accounts of beneficiaries is a revolutionary scheme and our schemes have increased the purchasing power for the poor and working class, allowed them to utilise the savings from the Guarantees for their children’s education and helped in even ensuring access to better medical facilities. Our free bus travel for women not only empowers them and ensures savings, but even has had the positive externality of increased tourism in the state. Women, with the help of Shakti and Gruhalakshmi are stepping towards empowerment, self reliance and independence. They are able to run households better, fight price rise better and ensure better futures for their families. In all, our Government guided by the goal of “By, For and Of the People” is fulfilling the main purpose of democracy as envisioned by Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar
Our guarantees helped alleviate and act as a balm for people reeling under drought in Karnataka. 223 Taluks of the State were hit by drought and even when the centre delayed our legally owed funds under disaster relief, the Guarantees ensured people had a social security net. Ensuring DBT to drought hit farmers’ accounts also helped prevent further distress and proved yet again that we are a pro people government.
Our revolutionary steps in this one year has ensured that we have been able to achieve much and is an indicator that we are battle ready for the upcoming 4 years and to face the challenges head on. Not only that, but I’m convinced that we will usher in a new Era of development while fulfilling the aspirations of our people.
