Champion cyclist thanked Bommai for getting her the race cycle

Gadag: A girl from Kadkola in Shirahatti taluk of Gadag district, Pavitra Kurthkoti on Friday met and thanked former chief minister and Gadag-Haveri Lok Sabha constituency BJP candidate Basavaraj Bommai for getting her the racing cycle as the CM due to her inability to buy the cycle

Pavitra said she had been unable to buy the racing cycle due to poverty and this has been conveyed to the then Gadag incharge minister CC Patil who brought it to the notice of the then CM Basavaraj Bommai. At that time, Bommai instructed the Department of Sports which got her the cycle worth Rs 8.5 lakh. Subsequently, she took part in the national level Asian Championship.

Bommai said Patil brought to his notice the innate talent in Pavitra and wanted to promote her. Immediately, the sports department principal secretary was called and asked him to release a special grant to enable her buy the latest cycle worth Rs 8.5 lakh. With the same cycle, she has represented India in Asian games and took part in sports meet in 30 plus countries. Pavitra has made use of the cycle given by the Government of Karnataka.

The former CM said 75 athletes were being trained who are going to Paris Olympics since last four years by spending Rs 8 lakh on each of them. With this, there would be medal winners from Karnataka among other Indians.

Pavitra Kurthkoti, Coach Anand Desai and former minister CC Patil were present.
